Scientific research has shown that each diver in average  destroys 10 gr. of coral during each dive inadvertently. This means: in the waters of Sharm el Sheikh every year 14.4 tons of coral are destroyed!
In light of this fact, preservation of the reefs becomes more and more important if we want to have beautiful reefs left for divers in the future. This necessity has led the egyptian government to the establishment of several nature reserves and national parks in Sinai. Since 1983 the area of Ras Mohammed has become a national park und since 1992 there is the protected zone of Nabq (Nabq Managed Resource Area) which also covers the Dahab area. This protection was recently extended to Ras Abu Galum (Abu Galum Managed Resource Area) and now covers almost 1.200 sq km.

Here divers an non-divers alike must follow some rules that have been established by a commission of experts to protect the environment in the sea and on land. Supervision of these protected areas lies in the hands of park-rangers who control and make sure that all regulations are observed. Of course each responsible diver should protect the environment out of conviction and respect and not out of fear of one of the harsh penalties which are handed out in case of a violation of the rules.

We instruct our instructors and guides to make sure that on excursions under their supervision, these rules are followed strictly. Many of them are voluntary park-rangers themselves and work actively in the field of environmental protection. We ask our guests to contribute to the efforts to keep the beauty of the underwaterworld around Dahab intact!
